About the event
The Lantern Festival is celebrated on the 15th day of the first month of the Chinese lunar-solar calendar.
It is the first major festival following the Chinese New Year (or Spring) festivities. It is celebrated on the occasion of the first full moon of the new year, and also marks the end of the traditional two-week New Year vacation. It's customary to gather with friends and family to eat yuanxiao (stuffed glutinous rice dumplings served in soup), admire the moon, the lanterns on display at night and the fireworks, and play the riddles on the lanterns.
